Parishioners spread spirit through gas pump

The cheapest gas in town Saturday came with some divine intervention.

The spiritual movement hit the CountryMark in Clermont, on the west side of Indianapolis, where a "gas buy down" was sponsored by the Spirit of Life Church. Patrons lined up to get a 50-cent discount on every gallon of gas, with full service from about 30 parishioners.

"Our pastor just wanted to be a blessing to the community," said one of the volunteers.

"We want to bless the community and send a little of God's love your way," another parishioner told a customer.

They hope while they fill up their tanks, the customers feel the spirit.

"We want to show the west side of Indy, the city of Indy, the Lord loves them, we love them and in a practical way," said pastor Zane Bousum.

Customers were well-moved by the show of generosity.

"I think it's great for them to do something so heartfelt for the community," one customer said.

The church members don't do it to pump up their own numbers, but instead to lift up those who've been feeling down about the high price of gas.

The church raised more than $4,000 and the gas station donated another $2,000 to bring the price per gallon down to $3.25 Saturday.
