Ownership

Indiana’s only American-owned oil refining company

History

CountryMark's refinery was built in Mount Vernon, Indiana, in 1940 by farmers who had a vision of energy security and independence. Those forefathers recognized the need for a high-quality, reliable source of fuel to get their crops planted and harvested in a timely manner. CountryMark today is still a farmer-owned cooperative. In the past four years, CountryMark has returned more than $50 million to farm communities in its trade area through its member cooperatives.

Crude Oil Source

CountryMark purchases its crude oil from the Illinois basin, which includes southern Indiana, southern Illinois and western Kentucky. Some 40,000 individuals sell and receive crude oil checks from CountryMark each year.

Products

CountryMark produces a complete line of quality fuels, including Premium Diesel-R road diesel, Super Dieselex-4 off-road diesel and Ninety Plus high-performance gasoline. The CountryMark refinery processes approximately 27,000 barrels of crude oil each day, or a total of 405 million gallons of finished products per year. CountryMark also offers a full line of quality lubricants.

Biofuels

CountryMark is proud to be Indiana’s largest blender of soy biodiesel. All CountryMark stations offer renewable soy biodiesel-blended fuels, which reduce dependency on foreign oil and extend the life of American crude oil. More than 60% of gasoline sales are ethanol blended gasoline and more than 70% of diesel sales are soy biodiesel blends.

Distribution channel

CountryMark sells fuel to 19 branded cooperatives who then retail the fuel at CountryMark fuel stations and/or deliver through the fuel directly to the end user. The system includes 90 retail fuel stations, 180 petroleum tank wagons and numerous transports. This fuel is sold daily to companies, farms, schools, government entities and individuals in and around the state of Indiana.

Trade area

CountryMark is a recognizable fuel supplier in all 92 counties in Indiana and many counties that border the state.

Interesting Facts

CountryMark fuels an estimated 65-70 percent of Indiana farmers’ machinery and an estimated 50 percent of Indiana school buses.
