CountryMark fuels economic development

Posey County, Indiana -- Ken Meyer, board president of the Posey County Community Foundation, announced today that CountryMark has established three funds to benefit Posey County. Administered through the Foundation, the charitable funds will include: the CountryMark Technical Trade Scholarship Fund, the CountryMark Black Township Fund, and the CountryMark Posey County Fund.

It is an honor for CountryMark to be in a position to establish three funds to give back to the community where our refinery is located, said CountryMark CEO Charlie Smith. He today presented, on CountryMarks behalf, a check for $300,000 to the Foundation. We feel confident that these funds will be well nurtured in this community and will be powerful catalysts for economic growth.

According to John Deaton, CountryMark Senior Vice President of Operations, the CountryMark Technical Trade Scholarship Fund will be offered through the Foundations Community Scholarship Program. The scholarship will be open to Posey County students planning to attend the Evansville campus of either IVY Tech Community College or ITT Technical Institute to pursue advanced education in electrical maintenance, electronics/computer technology, mechanical maintenance or welding. CountryMark has hired a number of very good employees from these institutes, said Deaton. Were pleased today to be able to fund a scholarship program that will encourage local high school students to pursue training which will refine skills within them that they and this community can depend upon for years to come.

According to George Morgan, CountryMark Pipeline Superintendent, the CountryMark Black Township Fund will support physical improvements in the Black Township area. In administering the fund, the Foundations board of trustees will accept funding proposals from not-for-profit organizations serving Black Township and will award grants based on the Townships greatest capital needs from year to year.

The CountryMark Posey County Fund will allow the Foundation, through its Competitive Grants Program, to address a broad range of local charitable needs. In administering its Competitive Grants Program, the Foundations board evaluates all aspects of community well-being: arts and culture, economic development, education, environment, health and human services, and neighborhood revitalization, and moreand directs grants dollars annually to the community's most pressing needs, today and as they emerge and change over time. This is the community where we work and live, said Morgan. Were honored to be able to help fuel local economic development. We look forward to partnering with our neighbors, business leaders and government officials in building a strong community for generations to come.

CountryMark is Indiana's only American-owned oil refining and marketing company and is recognized as a national leader in the distribution of biofuels such as soy biodiesel and ethanol. The Posey County Community Foundation provides companies like CountryMark with an innovative and cost-effective way to invest in the local community today and for the long term. The impact of these endowed funds will continue to be seen for generations to come, said Meyer. By establishing these charitable funds through the Foundation, CountryMark can meet its goal of improving the lives of people of Posey County while leaving the administrative and legal details to the board and staff of the Foundation.
