Our Refinery

Mount Vernon Refinery

The CountryMark™ refinery was built in Mount Vernon, Ind., in 1940 by farmers who had a vision of energy security and independence.

The refinery is supplied with crude from the Illinois Basin through a system of approximately 500 miles of pipelines owned by CountryMark, which gathers the crude from thousands of small wells owned by farmers and other landowners.

Finally, a 238-mile private pipeline delivers CountryMark fuels from the refinery to terminals in Mt. Vernon, Switz City, Jolietville and Peru, Ind. CountryMark personnel strictly control all proprietary fuels to ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained.

The Illinois Basin – Naturally Sweet Crude

The CountryMark refinery uses 100% American crude oil sourced from the Illinois Basin, a 53,000 square mile depression underneath most of Illinois, western Indiana, western Kentucky and northern Tennessee.

Illinois Basin crude oil is of higher quality than crude from the Middle East. It naturally contains less sulfur, which contributes to processing ease and product quality. It also refines better, yields diesel with a higher cetane rating and produces more gasoline and diesel fuel from each barrel.

By sourcing American crude oil, we reduce our reliance on foreign oil, while dollars spent for this oil remain here in the Midwest where they support our local economies.
