CountryMark Announces Safety Award Winners

Dec 11 2015

Safety is job one at CountryMark and CountryMark Safety Director Aaron Willis recently announced the company’s safety performance record, as well as the company’s safety performance winners, for the refinery’s recent turnaround.

This year's turnaround focused on the company's Crude Unit, which is a key component of CountryMark Refinery operations located in Mt. Vernon, Ind.  Turnarounds are periods when refinery processing units are shut down to perform required equipment inspections, as well as upgrades.  To minimize downtime, work is scheduled around the clock with as many workers as possible to maximize productivity, while maintaining safety. Organizations must carefully plan this work and develop measures to maintain high levels of safety awareness in order to avoid injury or incident.  Some of these measures associated with the recent CountryMark Crude Unit Turnaround involved a Turnaround Safety Plan/Training, Pre-Shift Safety Talks, Safety Committees, as well as an Incentive Program.

According to Willis, all personnel involved during this year's Crude Unit Turnaround completed their work in an exceptionally safe manner.

"There were approximately 450 contract personnel who worked with CountryMark employees to complete the turnaround," said Willis.  "Together, approximately 60,000 manhours were worked.  There were zero OSHA recordable injuries, two first-aid injuries, two incidents and three near misses."

CountryMark employees and contractors who worked the turnaround were entered into a drawing based on safe days worked.  The following is a list of energy professionals who were randomly selected to win cash prizes:

CountryMark employees: Matt Johnson, John Culley, Jamie Cross and Jason Brandenstein

Contractors: Adam Joyce, John Dugan, Carolyn Chandler and Miguel Hinojosa

CountryMark appreciates everyone’s great efforts, which contributed towards a successful turnaround.
