CountryMark Fueling Freedom events raise more than $57,000 for local military families

Jun 26, 2019
CountryMark’s Fueling Freedom events on June 21 raised more than $57,000 to support local National Guard Family Readiness Groups. Across Indiana, Illinois and Ohio, 37 CountryMark-branded fueling stations participated in Fueling Freedom 2019. For every gallon of fuel pumped, CountryMark and local branded-dealers agreed to donate 50 cents to local National Guard Family Readiness Groups.

“CountryMark’s Fueling Freedom is a great event for our employees and branded-dealers to give back to the community and raise money for a worthy cause, local National Guard Family Readiness Groups,” said CountryMark Vice President of Refining & Logistics Matt Smorch. “Everyone who participates makes someone’s day more positive by pumping their gas, washing their windshield or just providing a smile all while raising money for a great cause.”

During the 11th annual event, CountryMark employees and CountryMark branded-dealers stood side-by-side with volunteers from local National Guard units to pump locally-refined, premium quality fuels for customers. In just five hours, customers purchased over 96,000 gallons of CountryMark fuel. Additionally, customers also donated over $9,000 to support American troops and their families – this was on top of the 50 cents per gallon that CountryMark and its branded dealers provided.

Out of the 37 participating CountryMark stations, the CountryMark Busler station in Evansville, Indiana led with 7,613 gallons sold during their Fueling Freedom event. A new record for our Fueling Freedom program! This station was also responsible for bringing in the most donations – over $1,000 for their local National Guard Family Readiness Group. Jeff Owens, of SynEnergy Partners, organized Fueling Freedom efforts at the Busler station in Evansville.

“We’re extremely proud of the collaboration and generous support from local businesses and the Evansville and surrounding communities.  The management team and staff of Busler Enterprises went the extra mile in their efforts to provide an exceptional and welcoming venue that gave each of us the opportunity to support and thank the fine men and women of our armed forces that sacrifice so much for our country and our community. Accomplishments such as this would have not been possible had it not been for the customers and members of the Evansville and surrounding communities showing their unwavering and generous support for such a great cause.  This speaks volumes as to the caliber of individuals that call Southwestern Indiana home.”

The second highest performing station was the CountryMark station, The Junction, on I-69 near Bloomfield, Indiana, with 6,567 gallons.

“To be able to work side by side with the men and women who protect this great nation for this event was truly an honor,” said White River Co-op Petroleum Manager Mike Riggins. “I am fortunate enough to be able to watch this event grow over 11 years to what it is today and it is truly remarkable. As for the communities of the Midwest to come out to support this event like they have makes me proud to be a part of this great nation.”

CountryMark branded dealers who participated in the Fueling Freedom events included: AgBest, Ceres Solutions, Co-Alliance, Harvest Land Co-op, Laughery Valley Co-op, Premier Companies, Shelby County Co-op, Superior Ag Resources, United Energy and White River Co-op

As a result of Fueling Freedom, 21 National Guard Family Readiness Groups in 3 states will benefit from this year’s events. Donations from each participating Fueling Freedom site were given to the National Guard Family Readiness Groups located closest to the participating fuel station. Family Readiness Groups help build National Guard unit morale, build unit retention and increase participation levels in family-related unit activities.
